Woodwool and Vermiculite
Woodwool can be used as loosefill or made into cushioned pads for protecting goods in transit e.g. heavy engineering items, stone products or more delicate ceramic, pottery or china products. Woodwool can also be used as a foodstuff for fruit and vegetables or decoratively in hampers or boxes of toiletries. Woodwool is the traditional stuffing for soft toys and often used for Taxidermy.
Vermiculite is a fireproof and lightweight loosefill which can be easily poured around irregular shaped objects. The high absorbency of Vermiculite makes it an ideal packing material for liquid items. Vermiculite is UN approved for use in the transportation of hazardous materials. When heated, Vermiculite expands up to 30 times its original volume and converts into a granular type material. Vermiculite protects against impact shock damage by absorbing the impact energy and crushing slightly, whilst retaining its high level of absorbency and protection. No protective clothing is required to handle Vermiculite as it is a fibre-free loosefill with no irritable ingredients.
Vermiculite is reusable (subject to damage) and recyclable where facilities are available.
